In Shandong Province, the headquarters of the Weiqiao Pioneering Group (Weiqiao), a fishing and solar power project has achieved a capacity of 650 MW. This enables the Weiqiao Group to continue its sustainable development with a significant amount of green energy.
The project, which combines fishing and photovoltaic power generation in Zhanhua County in the Binzhou region, aims to achieve a capacity of 2 GW and is currently the largest single project of its kind in the world. It is also the largest photovoltaic power generation project in Shandong Province. Equipped with a 220 kV booster station and transmission line, the project began construction on July 28, 2023 and is expected to reach a capacity of 1.2 GW by October this year. At that time, the annual power generation is expected to reach 1.68 billion kWh, save 504,000 tons of standard coal and reduce CO2 emissions by about 1.36 million tons. The project is of great significance for improving the proportion of green energy in the Weiqiao Group, but also for helping the city of Binzhou to build a green ecological corridor on the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
Weiqiao is consistently pursuing the path of green development and is constantly optimizing its own energy structure. In recent years, Weiqiao has used the roofs of textile and aluminium factories to build a 300 MW project for decentralized photovoltaic power generation. With this and the construction of the Yunnan Green Aluminum Innovation Industrial Park, in which hydropower, wind power and photovoltaics provide green energy, the Group has recently made considerable progress in its sustainable development. Weiqiao is also planning to continue adapting its energy structure in the future. The aim is to set a global benchmark for China’s low-carbon aluminum production.
WEIQIAO Germany GmbH is a European subsidiary and European headquarters of the Chinese Shandong Weiqiao Pioneering Group. The group includes three listed companies, two of which are listed in Hong Kong, 12 domestic and overseas production sites and over 100,000 employees worldwide.
