From November 30 to December 13, 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the Weiqiao Group was once again invited. The overseas business division of the group participated in relevant meetings and engaged in extensive discussions with scientists about the company’s path toward low-carbon development.

In collaboration with the strategic dual-carbon partner Roland Berger, Weiqiao presented its innovative, low-carbon aluminum brands, HQALight (low-carbon primary aluminum), and HQALoop (recycled aluminum products). The group also outlined specific measures to promote the circular economy: 

• Promotion of the energy transition: Transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources such as hydropower, solar, and wind energy, exemplified by the application in the Yunnan project. 
• Promotion of the circular economy: Increased production of recycled aluminum, including the annual dismantling of 100,000 old cars and the processing of 500,000 tons of recycled aluminum. 
• Promotion of climate neutrality through lightweight technology and CO2 reduction: Expansion of downstream aluminum processing to achieve energy savings and reduce carbon emissions. 
• Intelligent transformation: Fundamental resolution of the challenge of energy-intensive production, for instance, through the world’s first integrated copper-carbon composite cathode technology for aluminum electrolysis. 
• Innovation and sustainability in the aluminum industry through global partnerships.
